  • ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL is a universal composite based on nano-ceramic technology: the combination of composite filler technology and advanced nano-technology.
  • The nano technology of ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL contains an inorganic structure which is similar to technical ceramics. This results in excellent resistance to crack propagation and exceptionally high fracture toughness similar to that of natural dentin.
  • ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL has been designed to match the VITA1 Classic shade range, the global standard in shade selection.

What makes ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL different?
ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL is different from other universal composites as it contains both nano fillers and nano particles which allow the resin content to be reduced from 25% to 12.5%. Reduced resin content means that there is a minimised chance of monomer diffusion. Reduced monomer leakage (monomer diffusion) results in excellent biocompatibility, decreasing the potential for an allergic reaction.

Both nano-ceramic fillers and nano-ceramic particles exhibit a silicium-oxide core. Once a composite restoration is placed and exposed to a curing light, the nano-ceramic fillers and particles connect to the monomers and become a part of the product’s resin matrix. Unpolymerized, free monomers have the potential to cause an allergic reaction and should not come into contact with body tissue or the pulp. Although most of the monomers of regular composites are immobilised during the light curing process (as they link to the nano-ceramic fillers and particles), there is always a chance that 'unlinked' or mobile monomers remain as a part of the material. These mobile monomers can potentially leak or diffuse from the restoration, threatening the patient with a potential allergic reaction.UNIVERSAL and DENTIN & ENAMEL are considered to have excellent biocompatibility properties when compared to conventional composites1.This is because the resin content of ceram.x one UNIVERSAL and DENTIN & ENAMEL has been reduced from 25% to 12.5% (replaced with nano-ceramic fillers and particles) - this equates to a reduced risk of monomer leakage.
 
Fluorescence Visible under black light Aesthetics
Fluorescence is a key feature of natural tooth substance. A composite restoration that does not exhibit fluorescence lacks the appearance of natural teeth. Both ceram.x one UNIVERSAL and DENTIN & ENAMEL contains fluorescent pigments that ensures a natural glow of the restoration under black light.

It is therefore important that a composite material offers a stable and consistent handling throughout the required time to achieve the desired outcome. Both ceram.x one UNIVERSAL and DENTIN & ENAMEL offer a long working time, ceram.x one UNIVERSAL & DENTIN shades can be manipulated for up to 120 seconds and ceram.x one ENAMEL shades can be used for up to 180 seconds before the material starts to set. This allows for a relaxed restoration placement, even in clinically and aesthetically demanding situations where the maximum amount of time is required to achieve the desired outcome.

Clinically proven Great clinical longevity Confidence and Safety
ceram.x one restorations have proven clinical longevity. This was demonstrated in two clinical trials which took place at the University of Bologna, Italy, and the University of Umeå, Sweden. In both trials, the ceram.x one restorations were followed-up over a period of 8 years. According to the results of the trials, less than 2 ceram.x one restorations out of 100 placed will fail per year2,3. This equates to an annual failure rate of less than 2%.

  Answer: ceram.x one is a universal composite based on a nano-ceramic technology: the combination of nano-technology and organic-modified ceramic.
2. Question: What is nano-ceramic technology?
  Answer: The inorganic structure which is similar to technical ceramics provides excellent resistance to crack propagation, resulting in exceptionally high fracture toughness similar to natural dentin.
3. Question: What is different in ceram.x one compared to other composites due to nano-ceramic technology?
  Answer: Different from other composites, ceram.x one contains organic and inorganic structures in the matrix, which reduce the resin content to 12.5% (instead of 25%). Together with the nano-particles, ceram.x one reduces the risk monomer leakage significantly, resulting in excellent biocompatibility.
4. Question: What is the indication for ceram.x one UNIVERSAL and ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL?
  Answer: Both versions can be used for all cavity classes. Depending on the preferred technique and aesthetic demand of the patient, the dentist can choose between the single (UNIVERSAL) or dual (DENTIN & ENAMEL) translucency system.
5. Question: What is the difference between ceram.x one UNIVERSAL and ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL?
  Answer:
ceram.x one UNIVERSAL offers 7 shades of a medium translucency (40-50%), which is comparable to conventional composites. It is often used for restorations of class I/II or for patients with an average aesthetic demand. 
ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL also provides 7 shades. 4 dentin shades with an opacity of >50% and 3 enamel shades with an opacity of about 20%. These shades have a translucency similar to natural dentin or enamel. ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL is applied in a layering technique which mimics the anatomy of natural teeth.
6. Question: What is special about ceram.x one UNIVERSAL and ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL?
  Answer: Both versions are available with a simplified shading concept of only 7 shades covering the whole VITAshade range.
7. Question: How is the shade of a restoration determined?
  Answer:

1) The shade guide is made from original ceram.x one composite allowing dentists to see the true colour of cured composite (no plastic shade guide).
                                                                                                                   
2) The iShade label shows the ideal recipe of ceram.x one UNIVERSAL and ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL. This recipe is confirmed by leading dental shade experts. 

8. Question: Is ceram.x one VITA1 based?
  Answer: The 7 shades of ceram.x one UNIVERSAL reference the VITA1 system and cover the full VITA1 range. The ishade label shows which VITA1 shade is covered by the corresponding ceram.x one UNIVERSAL shade or shade combination of ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL.
9. Question: How can the dentist determine the thickness of enamel and dentin shades?
  Answer: The ceram.x one system is different from others that offer more than two translucencies as it mimics the natural tooth structure. DENTSPLY recommend that a slightly thinner enamel layer (than the natural tooth) is applied to avoid a restoration which has an appearance that is too greyish (the dark background of the mouth shines through an enamel layer that is too thick).  
10. Question: Which bonding agent is recommended for use with ceram.x one?
  Answer: ceram.x one is fully compatible with universal and self-etch (e.g. prime&bond one SELECT) as well as with etch&rinse systems (e.g. prime&bond one ETCH & RINSE). 
11. Question: What kind of finishing & polishing instruments and flowable is recommended with ceram.x one?
  Answer: Enhance® is proven to provide the best polishing results with ceram.x one. ceram.x one is also compatible with SDR® (available in Compula® Tips or Syringes ).
12. Question: Why is ceram.x one packed in an aluminium layered pouch?
  Answer: ceram.x one should be stored at room temperature and a humidity of 50%. To ensure ideal paste consistency for the global market, ceram.x one is packed in a moisture protected pack for transportation and storage in the warehouse. We also recommend storing it in the pouch. After opening of the pouch, the material can last up to 3 months.

DENTSPLY is utilising a new photo inhibitor system that provides a prolonged working time of 180 seconds for ceram.x one ENAMEL shades. The ceram.x one UNIVERSAL and DENTIN shades have a working time of 120 seconds

16. Question: What is the recommended storage temperature for ceram.x one?
  Answer: The recommended storage temperature is 6-28°C.
17. Question: What is the shelf life of ceram.x one?
  Answer: 2 years.
18. Question: How many shades does ceram.x one provide?
  Answer:

  Question: How can ceram.x one UNIVERSAL cover the whole VITA1 range with 7 shades only?
  Answer: Many shades of the VITA1 classic shading system are quite similar and can be reduced into 7 shade groups by clustering similar shades together. Each one of the ceram.x one UNIVERSAL shades can replace all of the shades of each corresponding VITA1 shade group.

20. Question: Is there a recipe available to “translate” VITA1 shades into ceram.x one shades?
  Answer: The iShade label (added to all Starter Kits as a sticky label intended to be stuck on the back of the VITA1 shade guide) shows which VITA1 shade is covered by the corresponding ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL shade.

 21. Question: How can ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL cover the full VITA1 range with just 7 shades? 
  Answer:

ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL offers a restoration procedure based on the natural configuration of dentin and enamel (morphological or anatomical layering concept). The ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL shades closely imitate the translucencies and chromas of natural dentin and enamel.

The ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL system comprises of only 4 dentin shades (d1-d4) and 3 enamel shades (e1-e3). The provided shades cover the whole VITA1 shade range. The enamel shades are much more translucent than dentin shades, just like natural enamel.

VITA1 shades can be achieved by the combination of ceram.x one DENTIN & ENAMEL shades. The iShade label indicates the recommended combinations.

 22. Question: How is the shade of a restoration determined?
  Answer: There are 2 options: 
  • Usage of the ceram.x one shade guide (which is made from original ceram.x one material): The shade guide allows dentists to see the true colour of originally cured ceram.x one.
  • Usage of the VITA1 shade guide:
The VITA1 shade guide should be used as usual. The iShade label can be placed on the rear side of the VITA1 shade guide to provide the corresponding ceram.x one shade.

 23. Question: Are there other tools that support shade determination?
  Answer: Yes. The following packaging components support the correct shade selection:
  • The syringes show the corresponding VITA1 shade

(The labelling of the syringes is done by laser ensuring legibility even after multiple wipe disinfection)

  • Outer packaging: The boxes of the starter kits and refills have the iShade recipe included in the layout.

 24. Question: What is the advantage of a simplified shading concept?
  Answer: As 2 VITA1 shades (on average) are covered with 1 ceram.x one shade it is easier and faster to find the best shade for each situation.
 25. Question: When choosing an enamel shade, what factors have been taken into consideration?
  Answer: Age of the patient: e1 is the ENAMEL shade with the lowest chroma and translucency. It is the ideal shade for younger patients, because young enamel is less chromatic and translucent than old enamel.After decades of use and incorporation of pigments, however, natural enamel will become abraded and discoloured and thus more translucent and chromatic, ENAMEL shade e3 will therefore normally be ideal for older patients.

Layer thickness: as a rule, enamel shades should be used only in thin layers, because otherwise the whole restoration will appear too greyish The thickness of the layer of the enamel shade should not exceed the natural enamel of the tooth.
